A natural progression in Christie-Coxon’s process-driven work has been the decision to collaborate directly with the natural environment; the landscape becomes the canvas, and elemental forces the media.

These environmental interventions thereby become expanded paintings; Christie-Coxon facilitating and recording elemental happenings. Ruminating on the interconnectedness of life, these ephemeral works cease to be confined by permenance and temporality, unbound by media or commodification.

For millions of years fire has been part of the Australian landscape. As a result of this prolonged association with fire, many Australian ecosystems have developed specialised relationships with the bushfire phenomenon. Much of our flora and fauna have evolved not only to survive fire, but depend on it for their persistence. Christie-Coxon’s decision to collaborate with this paradoxically threatening, yet essential force in these elemental works thereby seeking to provide a space for reflection upon the duality and complexities of an untameable world.
